About

This year marks the 45th anniversary of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), which was adopted by the United Nations in 1979. With 189 contracting parties, CEDAW stands as the second-largest international human rights treaty. Taiwan voluntarily complies with CEDAW's norms, having submitted its initial national report in 2009 and enacted the Enforcement Act of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women on January 1, 2012. Over the past 15 years, we have undergone four international reviews of our national reports.

To oversee the implementation of the conclusions and recommendations stemming from the Fourth International Review of the National Report on CEDAW, we plan to invite international experts in CEDAW to engage in constructive dialogue with domestic NGOs regarding the pertinent laws and policies, and to explore the periodic report review mechanism to assess its impact on the rights of women and on gender equality in Taiwan. This collaborative effort will assist the National Human Rights Commission in formulating independent assessment opinions and issuing recommendations for legislation and policymaking, thereby encouraging the government to fulfill its obligations to the nation.
